VLC Media Player Overview The VideoLAN project is designed for multimedia streaming of MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and DivX files, DVDs, digital satellite channels, digital terrestrial TV channels and live video over a high-bandwidth IPv4 or IPv6 network , using Unicast.
VideoLAN is free software and released under the GNU General Public License
VideoLAN also has a cross-platform media player, VLC, which can be used to scan a network stream or display scanned video on a computer using all GNU/Linux models, all BSD versions, Windows, Mac OS Solaris, QNX, Known Linux .
It started as a student project at the French A‰cole Centrale Paris, but is now a global project involving developers from 20 countries
